the night before last, i realised how much luxury i have in my life. i watched the movie "Blood Diamond" about africa and some of the troubles there, and while it was in my mind that those troubles existed, there is nothing quite like the actualisation of those images beaming themselves directly into your mainframe.

children barely strong enough to hold up a weapon, firing those weapons.
prostitution with a preemptive statement of "no h.i.v."
families ripped apart, hands cut off, people shot just because.
a village of tents made of rags and abandoned cars for homes.

i have a lumpy bed that gives me a sore neck most mornings, i'd say a sore neck is a luxury when i wake up and put my feet on a wood floor and walk 8 feet to a bathroom with running water. i'd say it's luxury to go to a kitchen where i turn a knob and have hot water to make tea in my oversized donald duck mug. i'd  say it's luxury to then sit in front of a computer and type words into a text box that has the potential to reach an unlimited number of people almost instantly when some people don't even know what a text box is.

the clothes i have on, luxury. the house i am currently sitting in, luxury. the fact that i can walk down the street to buy food or get on a bus, luxury.

so what do i, a fortunate son of society have to worry about? i have luxury problems. i am quite fortunate.
